13 YEAR OLD Rhys Davies caught a Junior Club record with a 10lb bullhuss.
Rhys also qualified for the Welsh Junior International Team with Josh Davies and represente his country in July 2013. Rhys & Josh take part in the P.A.K.A coaching programme and they excelled in matches over the past few years. Rhys' father Mike Davies, a prolific fisherman and well known on the competition circuit, is very proud of Rhys. The boys came through a very comprehensive coaching scheme that was designed by PAKA in 2009 to help youngsters get into fishing and understand the local aquaculture. The scheme has been so successful that it is now used in local schools, children`s clubs and scout movements. The coaching programme designed and copyrighted in 2009 also helps in the rehabilitation of the more vulnerable members of society. Grants received during 2009 to present day have helped fund these events, including beach clean ups, identifying the origins of waste, the impact on the environment, overfishing, historical fishing rights and its impact on marine life. Catch and release fishing (CRF) is used in all PAKA junior coaching and fishing events. CRF is fully endorsed by our members and is used in all fishing matches and competitions. Anyone wishing to take part in our junior coaching schemes can do so by filling out the contact form for more advice. Club Junior members 13 year old Rhys Davies (left) and 15 year old Josh Davies have represented Wales in the Home International Juniors Shore Fishing Championships. The Championship was fished over two days on Abererch Beach, Pwllheli, Gwynedd. The fishing was tough due to the fantastic weather conditions, with the water calm and crystal clear so they had to use every facet of their skills to catch the fish. The competition was very close each day and the final results went down to the last cast and the boys were just nosed into 3rd place with 21 points and the Bronze Medal. Both juniors are also members of PAKA and were active participants in the coaching programme run by Alan Duthie and Clive Jones, they have natural fishing abilities and were very easy to coach. Rhys also learned a lot of his techniques and skills from top angler Paul Morgan. Further coaching days are planned by PAKA for next year’s Home Internationals to be held in Scotland. A further Club Junior, 12 year old Thomas Woods, is showing great promise and could join Rhys and Josh in the full Welsh Junior Team. Rhys and Josh thanked PAKA and their associated clubs, including MMBFC, who provided financial help with their expenses for the Home International. Rhys Davies caught his record breaking 10lb bull huss training, with Paul Morgan, for the Home Internationals. Top angler Paul Morgan took Rhys under his wing to fine tune him ready for the home international in July 2013, Rhys progressed under this one to one tuition to a standard that made him very difficult to beat in a match situation. |
