PAKA Safe Fishing Guide
'During this summer there have been a number of tragic deaths around our coast line so I thought it would be prudent to put out a reminder of all precautions we should take when angling'. Alan Duthie PAKA Chairman.
- Always try and fish with others
- Always let someone know where you are going and your expected time of return
- Keep a mobile phone with you fully charged
- Check the weather forecast before you go
- Know the area you are fishing it is always a good idea to visit the area at low tide
- If fishing night tides always have a backup head torch
- Keep your eyes open for hazards
- Never wade above knee height (4 bathers have drowned this year because of rip tides they were all in shallow water)
- Wading above knee height will invalidate your insurance cover
- Wear suitable clothing and footwear
- If you see someone in trouble call the coastguard 999 don’t endanger yourself if the situation requires your help get other beach users to back you up
