PAKA Beach Clean 15 July 2018

Picture

Nathan Dyer (left) and a willing helper
PAKA joined forces with the charity Children of theDump in cleaning up Swansea beach, this was the second day that a PAKA led clean up had taken place, loads of rubbish was collected including food wrappers to discarded needles, pleasingly not one piece of fishing waste had to be picked up.
A big thank you must go to Nathan Dyer and family for giving up the whole day to help. We collected over £500 for the charity, Chlidren Of The Dump.
The final figure for the beach clean was £590 going to Children of the Dump, We Would like to thank Nathan Dyer and his family the fishing boys from SA1 Fishing Club, and Tiz from the Ship Inn St Thomas, Swansea Council, Associated British Ports and Mumbles Dry Cleaning all who supported the cause, a brilliant effort by all concerned. The sad thing is, the beach was full of rubbish again 24 hours later

Insurance Update

Dear Members
Over the past few weeks I have been beefing up our insurance and have managed to negotiate these addition to our policy at no extra cost . These new additions will come into force from 2nd March 2017, I think you will agree these are valuable additions especially for all PAKA member clubs.
Alan Duthie
Chairman

Alan,
I am pleased to confirm that at renewal we will be including the following additional benefits without charge.

►Professional Liability to cover each Clubs (and PAKA) responsibilities in arranging for Coaches/Instructors to be made
available for its members. This will be to the same Limit as the current Public Liability insurance which stands at £5M.

►Cyber cover to £100,000 – in the event of Hacking, Unauthorised collection of electronic data, breach of confidence,
Infringement to the right of privacy, negligent transmission of a virus etc etc – the list goes on and on!

In all probability, we will also give an option to increase the Limit under the Personal Liability section of your existing policy,
if required.

Anglers First Tackle insurance is a product available from MEAD, administered by our East Grinstead Office, with everything done
Online. It is only available to Coarse and Fly Fishermen/women so, by definition, is only given for inland angling and is
not available or sea anglers.

Kind regards,

Keith @ MEAD

MUMBLES Pier is closed to the public due to storm damage

The Victorian-built structure will not be open for the rest of January after inspectors discovered storm-related damage.

This was described by a spokesman for pier owners Ameco as a "list" in the platform.

But it is not considered a major concern, and the comings and goings of the Mumbles lifeboat crew at the all-weather lifeboat station at the end of the pier will not be affected. The fishing plate forms at the end of the pier are closed until further notice due to the structural work taking place.

PictureAngela Jones presenting Lee Jones with the Fishing Holiday in Ireland prize.

So a very fruitful night on the 20 January. Well done all you members who attended and took part and many thanks.

Angela and Carl have confirmed they are sponsoring the Twelve Knights open competition to the sum of £500. The event will take place on Aberavon Beach,15 May 2016 fishing from 11am to 3pm.

Sea bass catch and release January - June.  1 bass per angler per day July - December

New EU recreational fishing restrictions for Sea Bass in 2016 (including fishing from boat and shore)
  • From 1st January to 30th June catch and release only
  • From 1st July to 31st December one bass per angler per day
  • Minimum keep size of 42cm still applies.
The 42cm MLS is probably still insufficient. A female bass of 41 cm at start of the spring spawning period will not be a viable spawner, as their sexual maturity is around 46cm. By the time the following annual spawning period arrives, she will be approx. 46 – 48 cm and she will spawn for the first time. IF, with a 42 cm MLS she is caught during that 12 month period and retained (perfectly legal) she will have been killed BEFORE ever spawning. To ensure all females have at least one spawning, a MLS of 48 cm (2 lbs – 10 oz) is required. ???

Sign the petition:

Gill netting should also be prohibited during the closed season

The current restrictions on recreational anglers should also be in place on commercial activities.

The European union have done their best to reverse the damage done to the bass fish stocks , yet the UK government decided to ignore the basic facts ,and allow gill netting to continue, a single gill nett can wipe out hundreds of fish in one swoop so how can this be acceptable , it make a mockery of the restrictions placed on recreational anglers.

If you agree then sign the petition at:
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/116747
Government responds to all petitions that get more than 10,000 signatures. So far there are 12,598 signatures (11Jan.) but more there are, more effective the petition will be.

At 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament.
  • Deadline 22 June 2016 All petitions run for 6 months
See the conservation page for the Governments response to people signing the petition.

PAKA Irish Fishing Trip Raffle Prize Worth £900 - The 3 day all inclusive fishing holiday was won by Lee Jones.

You will recall Marshall Mainwaring won the prize on the night. He then donated it Angela of the Twelve Knights who in turn could not use it due to ill health and gave it to the Lucy Worrall fund.

So the prize is to be raffled off again at the PAKA meeting on Wednesday, 20 January 2016 to be held at the Twelve Knights Hotel, Port Talbot, and the money raised will go to the Lucy Worrall Fund.

The meeting will start at 7.30pm

CATCH OF THE DAY

Gwyn Thomas of CwmavonSAC and MMBFC clubs when out fishing on MMBFC's Oystercat caught this 2lb 2oz black bream off Langland.  Oystercat had a party of 10 members out for a day's fishing on the marks around Langland and Oxwich.  Fishing low water,  several species and sizes were caught and a good day was enjoyed by all, excellent weather, sun cream required and John Elvins' sausage baps went down very well with a cup of tea.  Skipper for the trip was Richie Pearce.

Breakwater news: Swansea Breakwater
The breakwater has been inspected again by ABP engineering and found to be undermined and unsafe.  Therefore, there can be no fishing from the breakwater until repairs have been carried out and this could take some time.  You will appreciate ABP and PAKA have to ensure the breakwater is 100% safe for fishing.

PAKA's First 'Purple Heart' Award
