Lee Jones did his charity skydive on August 17  raising £1200+ for Ty Rhosyn Palative Care Unit in Port Talbot. 100% of the money raised went to Ty Rhosyn Palative Care Unit. Lee paid the full cost of the skydive £220 as his contribution.
Angela the stewardess of the 12 Knights Hotel, Port Talbot is being cared for by Ty Rhosyn Palative Care Unit.  Angela and the the 12 Knights have been fantastic supporters of PAKA and  our charity fund raising competitions, so we wanted as much as possible to help Angela and the work of Ty Rhosyn Palative Care Unit. Lee Jones came up with the offer to make a difference and we supported him whole heartedly with his preparation and money raising.
It is still possible to give donations by contacting Lee on 07772163336 or lee.jones78@btinternet.com

Swansea Bay Lagoon

15/6/2014

Swansea Bay Lagoon. The development of the proposed lagoon has passed another stage of planning, and should it be built the lagoon wall will provide fantastic facilities for fishing. Along the 9.5 km (6 miles) wall will be fishing platforms built out from the wall at 20 ft intervals, ideal for competition peg marks, accommodating up to 8,000 anglers.  PAKA is in consultation with the lagoon developers over the provision of the fishing provision.  A recent inspection of a lagoon in France has shown no problem with silt, or fish flows and the number of fish species around the lagoon has increased substantially.  It will be possible to fish on the sea side and inside of the lagoon wall. PAKA fully supports the creation of the Swansea Bay Lagoon.
Recreation and amenity facilities

The lagoon should become a major attraction and recreational amenity, providing a local amenity for opportunities in the arts, education, recreation and culture.
Sports

There is significant potential for the tidal lagoon to become a foundation venue for local and national sports use.  With the potential for cycling, walking and running around the lagoon wall, as well as open water swimming, kayaking, rowing and sailing as further example uses in addition to fishing.  Discussions, including PAKA, are under way to assess the most appropriate opportunities and ensure facilities are available to enable these.

Fish from the Oystercat

Some members of PAKA have also joined Mumble Motor Boat and Fishing Club so they have access to the Oystercat and many boat fishing opportunities, at very reasonable prices.
Oystercat is a stunning blue hulled Blyth 33 (10m) Workcat fitted with twin Iveco 330hp diesel engines.  On first sight  first it is her sheer size that impresses the most.
For a boat of only 33 feet long and 16 feet wide she looks enormous!  So there is tons of room for the anglers as you can spread right round the wheelhouse.  On the drift everyone can move round and fish one side and the stern. The boat stays steady in a sea and the covered area can accommodate most anglers on board. Inside the galley we have a heated hob and grill, kettle, cups and cutlery; so hot drinks and snacks can be made available. Other facilities include toilet, bait tanks and safety rails.

Picture
The Blyth Fisherman Workcat is the best catamaran in her class.  She has a raised foredeck, offering a spacious wheelhouse, galley, ample storage space, toilet and helm station. She has a spacious fishing platform and stability that out-performs most mono-hulls and speeds of up to 30 knots.  It is hard to find a boat to match her for comfort, durability and reliability. Due to the good boat building and advanced technology Oystercat is smooth, quiet, stable and very manoeuvrable.  At minimum cruising speed she makes 20 knots easily, on full throttle almost flys at 28-30 knots and at 1800 rpm we have had 2.3 gallons per hour, per engine from her on fishing trips.   Even in breezy and gusting conditions across Swansea Bay she is delight. Oystercat is hard to match for her comfort, durability and reliability.  Even so, Oystercat will not normally go out if a Force 6 (22-27knots - Strong Breeze) or over is forecast for Swansea Bay.  This is for the safety and comfort of the people on-board.
Due to boat insurance terms fishing from the Oystercat is only available to MMBFC members.
